Curated for Ad's Sake #11: Amy Peden & Tiana Gibbons-Campbell
Freeze-frames, windowpanes, heartbreak and cottagecore 👩🌾
Great people in and around advertising have great taste in art.
I wanted to know what turns them on, so I asked them about their artistic fascinations and inspirations.
🧑🎨 You’re welcome.
Another edition, another example of Award School’s finest. This time it’s the 2023 Award School Tutors of the Year – Amy Peden (R-Copy) and Tiana Gibbons-Campbell (L-Art) with a selection of their artistic fascinations and inspirations. So take out your exercise books, sharpen your pencils, conceal your ElfBar lest it be confiscated, because the lesson is about to begin.
Oh Captain, my Captain! 🍎
It’s Amy for Ad’s Sake!
🚆 Loyle Carner – Ottolenghi Ft. Jordan Rakei
There’s something so soothing about this laid-back track with its heartfelt lyrics that keeps me coming back. The video makes this song even better. It’s set on a surreal train trip, was shot by Oscar Hudson and feels nostalgic and unexpected.
🎥 freezframes Insta Page
Andrew, the content creator behind @freezframes, shares his love for world cinema by categorising films in interesting and specific ways with posts like: films that “feel like a dream”, “are visually insane” and “use the colour orange”. I love how thoughtfully each post is put together and how this page helps me match my movie to my mood.
✍️ Annie Lord (Writer, Author, Journalist)
I adore Annie Lord’s work. Her debut novel Notes on Heartbreak, her articles as Vogue’s dating columnist and as a contributor to the Guardian. Annie is always honest, hilarious and a little unhinged. She brings “frivolous” topics, such as “Why Do I Keep Fantasising About Being A Kept Woman?” to the front and centre of her work, and it's always a joy to read.
📚 Toni Morrison’s “The Work You Do, the Person You Are”
I wrote my uni dissertation on female friendships in Toni Morrison’s novels and have always followed her work. This excerpt from Morrison’s 2017 essay in The New Yorker is a favourite. For anyone caught up in work stresses or struggling with equating their work with their worth, give Morrison’s reflections a read.
It’s Tiana for Ad’s Sake!

I always come to Mr.Zazzle for type inspiration and come out with so much more. Whether your day, your deck or your demeanour needs a little boost this is the page to come to. Zazzle shares his opinions, life lessons, and general dazzle to the world through colourful and eye-catching typography.
🪟 Mecwacare Op shop Window
I've always been passionate about thrift shopping and discovering the creative potential in secondhand items. The volunteers at a particular thrift shop share this passion and elevate it with their incredible shopfront window displays. I pass by this shop almost every day, and their shopfront window is one of the most imaginative and ever-changing displays I've ever seen.
I can't help but stop and admire it each week, analysing the theme and all the intricate details that bring it to life. A notable favourite of mine was a retro baking-themed window with vintage mixers, cookbooks, and aprons galore. Currently, they have a gallery theme, showcasing some forgotten art pieces.
🪴 The Plant Craft Cottage, Royal Botanic Gardens
I stumbled upon The Plant Craft Cottage during a walk in the Botanical Gardens a few months ago, and it rekindled my passion for crafts. It inspired me to embrace hands-on creativity again. The cottage offers a variety of workshops each month, including card making, natural plant dying, basket making, and even potpourri crafting. This charming cottage also serves as a showcase for beautiful artwork and crafts by various artists and artisans, making it an excellent place to find unique gifts.
🔈 Apple HomePod — Welcome Home by Spike Jonze
I’ve included this ad as it was shown to me early on in my career. Igniting for me, the possibilities in advertising.
What you initially think is some insane VFX, is actually a next level set build – a stretchable house. The production and commitment to creating this colourful scene is impressive. It shows if you can imagine it, you can build it. This was all to bring the idea of the emotive power of music to life.
